What questions to ask
To most people, choosing an LGV training company is something you only do once.
It is important therefore to make the right choice first time.
This choice is made easier if you know what questions to ask and what to look for. Here are some guidelines:
Do's
- Ask how long the business has been operating. A good track record usually means lots of satisfied customers and recommendations.
- Ask if the company use new or almost new training vehicles. Some training companies buy very old vehicles that are worn out and can be difficult for trainees to learn in.
- Ask how the company can assist you in finding employment. There is no point spending hundreds of pounds on a course and not getting a job at the end.
Don'ts
- Don't automatically go for the cheapest course. Always compare like for like and find out exactly what the company is offering for the price. Watch out for hidden extras like VAT, test fees and theory test manuals. Good companies will include these in the price quoted.
- Don't necessarily decide upon the most local training company. It might seem the most convenient but perhaps not the best value for money.
- Don't think small is beautiful! Companies with only 1 or 2 vehicles may not have the resources to cope with the unexpected?
